Mitsubishi FUSO & ECS together
Among the countless good news this year, in ECS we are honored to add the company FUSO to the list of our valuable suppliers.
Specifically, ECS will be able to supply its customers with:
- Engines for Canter and Rosa bus, the iconic light-duty truck
- FUSO’s engine Genuine parts
- Reman LONG BLOCK engine (used both on Canter and Rosa bus)
Some curiosities about FUSO’s History
The FUSO success story began in Japan in 1932 with a small bus called the B46. Thirty-one years later in 1963, the first Canter light-duty truck rolled off the production line, ushering in the start of a unique vehicle history. That vehicle has to date been followed by well over four million vehicles with just one goal: to make transport on the continents of this world more efficient and more economical for the customer.
The FUSO brand has made a name for itself as a fuel-efficient manufacturer beyond the borders of Japan all around the world. In Asia alone, around 140,000 units of the Canter are built and sold worldwide every year.
FUSO in Europe
FUSO is present with the iconic light-duty truck Canter in the 3.5t to 8.55t segment in more than 30 European countries. The sales and after-sales headquarters are in Stuttgart (Germany).
The Canter is produced in Tramagal (Portugal) for the European markets. Over half of the components and parts in every Canter are produced in Europe. Over 800 service centers across Europe ensure that our customers always remain mobile.
The origin of the brand name
The brand name FUSO was originally used in 1932 in connection with the first bus from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, the “B46”. The seven-metre-long bus was built at the Kobe Shipyard and Machine Works, a company of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and was able to carry 38 passengers. It was powered by a 7-litre 6-cylinder petrol engine with 100 hp.
On the occasion of the delivery of the B46 bus to the first customer, the Japanese Ministry of Railways, the company’s employees were asked to suggest a nickname. Finally, “FUSO” was chosen from among the suggestions.
Fusō is the Japanese pronunciation of the Chinese word Fusang, an old name for Japan.
Engines for Canter duty truck and Rosa Bus
ECS can now supply its customers with Canter and Rosa Bus engines to meet the specific needs of industries such as: public service, delivery services, constructions, horticulture and landscaping.
Something about Canter
Whether with diesel engine or electric powertrain – the Canter sets new standards on the technology front, too. Featuring state-of-the-art common-rail technology and variable turbine geometry, the engine delivers high torque even at low revs. Add to this the advanced exhaust emission control system, which meets the new Euro VI standard, and the standard-fit idle start/stop function, as well as the new on-board diagnostics and the new high-pressure fuel injection system.
These innovations benefit not just your vehicle, but also the environment. There are no exhaust or noise emissions whatsoever from the electric motor in Europe’s first electric light truck, the eCanter.
5 strong powertrains
FUSO ha recently developed five efficient and economical output classes:
- The 96 kW engine (130 hp) with a torque of 300 Nm at 1300-3500 rpm offers a good basis for your company.
- The 110 kW engine (150 hp) with a torque of 370 Nm at 1320-3500 rpm combines economy with pulling power and flexibility.
- The 129 kW high-power engine (175 hp) with a torque of 430 Nm at 1600-3500 rpm gives your Canter enough power to handle even the most challenging tasks.
- The all-electric powertrain of the eCanter with an ample 115 kW (156 hp) brings the future to the road – from the very first step on the pedal.
The engines are equipped as standard with an engine start/stop function and come with DUONIC® 2.0 or manual transmission. The engine start/stop function is part of the ECOFFICIENCY package and reduces the Canter’s already low fuel consumption in short-haul traffic.
ROSA – Light duty bus
The Mitsubishi Fuso Rosa is a Japanese minibus based on the Mitsubishi Fuso Canter manufactured by Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation.
As Canter it can mount Reman LONG BLOCK engine.
Rosa bus: something about its history
The Mitsubishi Rosa was launched in 1960 by the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (formerly China-Japan Heavy Industries) and was called Mitsubishi Rosa.
In 1964, three companies merged with the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to become a new Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and the Mitsubishi Rosa became a Mitsubishi Fuso product to replace the Fuso MB720 minibus in 1966.
The new Rosa bus
Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) recently announced the launch of a new model of the light-duty Rosa bus.
The new Rosa comes with the BusConnect® telematics function, which notifies and manages the vehicle’s operational status in real time to bus operators. The telematics feature allows bus operators to track and manage vehicle location, routing, and drivers’ safety scores, while enabling remote diagnosis in real time. Through geofencing, BusConnect aids fleet managers in detecting vehicle issues, while also contributing to operational efficiency and the prevention of dangerous driving.
The new Rosa also complies with various new industry requirements, including J-OBD II standards and noise regulations. The light-duty bus has been equipped with daytime running lights for increased visibility even during the day. The Rosa is now also offered with automatic lights that can help drivers avoid instances of forgetting to turn on the headlights at dusk. In addition, MFTBC has newly equipped the Rosa with a co-driver seatbelt reminder for greater safety. Furthermore, the Rosa now complies with Japan’s mandatory seatbelt regulation for extra seats and comes with a fuel tank compliant with the latest standards for fuel leak prevention.
Finally, two new body colors – ocean blue and honey yellow — are now available for customers. Often run as shuttles or school buses, the Rosa plays a crucial role in day-to-day community transport. The Rosa will continue to evolve to provide a safer, more efficient and more comfortable experience on the road for all.
The Benefits of FUSO Engines
In addition to the extreme quality and reliability of the motors produced by FUSO, there are 4 very important aspects to underline:
- The emission control system
- BlueTec® 6 technology
- Europe’s first electric motor for a light truck
- VTG and standard-fit exhaust brake
1 The emission control system
All engine variants have a closed, maintenance-free diesel particulate filter which regenerates itself automatically. If needed, this can also be done manually. The exhaust gases are cleaned by a combination of oxidation catalyst and diesel particulate filter. BlueTec® 6 is also employed. As a result, all Canter models comply with the Euro VI standard.
2 BlueTec® 6 technology
With the aid of BlueTec® 6 SCR diesel technology, the Canter from 6.5 t reduces the exhaust emissions while at the same time optimising the engine in terms of performance and fuel economy. The increased injection pressure makes for improved combustion while lowering the particulate emissions and fuel consumption.
The nitrogen oxides are converted to harmless substances in the exhaust system by the injection of AdBlue. On-board diagnostics constantly monitor the system and inform the driver about the fill level of the AdBlue tank.
The 12-litre AdBlue tank ensures that you can go about your work for up to 4000 kilometres. Assuming you drive 30,000 km a year, you need to refill the tank just eight times.
3 Europe’s first electric motor for a light truck
The 115 kW electric motor with optimised powertrain is coupled to a reduction gear, which transfers the power to the wheels via drive shaft and rear axle. The full power of the motor is available even when you move off.
The motor draws its energy from battery packs, which can be expanded in modular fashion. Each battery consists of 100 lithium ions and has a maximum voltage of 420 V and a capacity of 13.8 kWh.
4 VTG and standard-fit exhaust brake
The variable turbine geometry (VTG) optimises the engine response while ensuring constant high torque at low revs. The exhaust brake reduces wear on your vehicle’s brake pads and discs; it also eases the load on the braking system on long downgrades.
